49 www PredatorXtreme com FEBRUARY 2012 No call on the market will bring in a coyote that isnt there Scout out areas with lots of coyote before you place your butt on the ground to call survey the landscape and see if you could do it better next time Be sure that your view of the area is not hindered by a bush tree or other obstacle I firmly believe Murphys Law applies to coyote hunting If you handicap yourself by sitting in the wrong place the coyotes will surely take advantage of it Look for something to sit against such as sagebrush or a cedar tree This not only helps break up your outline but also makes your time on stand more comfortable Sit in the shade whenever possible If youre calling with the sun at your back and youre leaning against a bush or tree shade is naturally provided Hiding in the shadows will help conceal small movements you make when calling Predict the coyotes approach and set up accordingly This is certainly not an absolute science However the more time you spend calling coyotes the easier it becomes to feel where theyre going to come from They will almost always use the terrain to their advantage They like to travel washes ridgelines game trails etc Analyze the terrain and try to pre determine where theyll likely appear Mistake No 3 Dont Panic My favorite thing about calling coyotes is the adrenaline rush I get when they come charging to my call As a result its easy to let your emotions take over and make bad decisions Its important that you keep your wits about you There is a significant amount of scientific explanation
