is available with either 21 or 28 volts of
Nickel Metal Hydride power. The light is
designed with an advanced “Smart Box”
controller, which eliminates bulb failure
by controlling voltage without sacrificing
any brightness. A rheo-switch controls the
light’s intensity. The padded nylon belt
assembly is a comfortable and convenient
way to store and carry the battery. The
assembly, with battery, weighs less than 2
lbs. Hunters can receive up to 22 hours of
burn time on the low side and up to 2
hours of burn time on the high side. The
recharge time is approximately 1-2 hours
per every hour of use. The light comes
standard with an automatic trickle charger.
An extra bulb is included, along with an
amber lens cover, 5100 high heat headlamp, belt, low-profile cap and a full two
year warranty. More information at

LED Lights
In the fall of 2009, the use of LED lights
gained popularity in the predator hunting
community. Met with skepticism at first,
these lights have proved to be excellent
in addressing the needs of serious night
time hunters. Here are some top offerings.
Energizer Night Strike Handheld: Energizer jumped
into the predator market with this power-
ful handheld light. Hunters will have the
option of using 5 modes of operation:
white light in spot, flood, or combo
modes, as well as high and low red
beam. The white light, with its 130
lumens of output, is able to reflect eyes at
200 yards. The red and gray foxes that I
called in while using this light in the
white light mode did not spook while
approaching. While field testing, the red
light did not project nearly as far as the
white light did. The red light would have
application for shotgun hunters who hunt
tight cover terrain. Rifle hunters will have
to rely on the white light. The Night Strike
does not come with a traditional scope
mount. However, it does include a
removable clip that could be adapted
onto a rail system for AR fans. The light is
powered by three AA batteries and lasts
up to 6 hours in the spot light mode. It
may be advantageous to carry spare bat-
teries for long nights of hunting. This light
is an excellent choice for scanning for
predators. The beam performance and the
weight and feel of the light make it a win-
ner. More information at
www.energizer.com or call 1-800-383-
7323.
Restorc, Ltd. Predator Light: The aptly named
“Predator Light” is packed with features
that put it at the top of its class. It’s both
lightweight ( 6 ounces) and compact 3-
inches in diameter) yet still performs big.
Hunters have a choice of three light
modes: walking, low and high. The walking light is perfect for maneuvering
around obstacles on the way to calling
stands. On the low setting, predator eyes
can be detected at 500 yards, and body
shots are possible at 150 yards. The high
setting will illuminate targets like it is daylight, which is important for identifying
distant targets. Yet perhaps the best feature is the incredible battery life. The
Predator Light uses a rechargeable 3. 6
Lithium-Ion battery, which is housed
inside the light — no wires! Hunters can
expect 20 hours of battery life while using
the light on the low setting, and four
hours when using the high setting. The
Predator Light can be used both as a
headlamp or a hand-held scanning light
that slips onto a scope mount.
